July 2013. For the 15th time, the Ventoux Mountain will transform into a giant anthill. A week before D-Day, motorhomes flock by the thousands and from far away coming to participate in the event, but also for this unique atmosphere of celebration and conviviality. As the roadside gradually turns into a holiday camp, hundreds of amateur cyclists, also from all over the world, tackle the ascent, in the footsteps of their champions. A big challenge: 21.6 kilometers, 1610 meters of elevation gain, and not a single opportunity to catch your breath … The Giant of Provence lives up to its name. Theater of incredible exploits, but also of tragedies like the death of the English runner Tom Simpson, struck down a few kilometers from the summit on July 13, 1967…
At the foot of Ventoux, Bédoin is on the warpath. 400,000 people are expected. At the dawn of the big day, the Tour de France organization takes possession of the finish line. France Télévisions is also there: the Grande Boucle brings together more than 3 billion viewers worldwide every day! 250 kms away, in Givors, the advertising caravan is getting ready. As the peloton headed for Ventoux, the public stormed the mountain. The security forces must redouble their vigilance. On the way up, a merciless struggle ensued between Christopher Froome and Alexander Quintana. Froome wins. The excitement gradually subsides.
In a few hours, the huge Tour de France machine will hit the road and Mont Ventoux will find its peace of mind.
