In the heart of the Pacific Ocean, the island of Wallis is inexorably depopulating. In search of a better life, its inhabitants leave this kingdom, deeply rooted in tradition, for opulent New Caledonia.

With Sosefo, a young Caledonian of Wallisian origin, and Aloïsio, customary chief and political leader who arrived more than 50 years ago, the authors made the opposite trip and went to meet the guardians of the land and of custom. Misunderstood in their adopted country, the Wallisians sometimes experience this exile painfully, but like their ancestors, who set out on an adventure on the seas – this trip was called the Tavaka – they turn their eyes to the sea.
