The need to make the Mediterranean area an innovative space in terms of sustainable development and good governance is obvious. Examples and counter-examples show this. In Spain, for example, while intensive agriculture in Almeria is impoverishing biodiversity, in Extremadura a particular form of livestock farming is helping to preserve natural species.
