Saint Francis of Assisi, Il Poverello
The biography of a rich young Italian in the thirteenth century nicknamed “il poverello” (“the poor man”) who went into poverty in order to help others and later founded the Franciscan order. He wrote poetry, spoke with birds and the sun, and admired and respected nature later becoming the patron saint of animals and the environment.
