What would have become of them, had they not had the mothers they had? This film looks at several portraits of the mothers of saints: Marie Beluze, mother of Jean-Marie Vianney, Sainte Monique, mother of Saint Augustin, Céline de Laon mother of Saint Rémi who brought the Franks into Christianity, Maman Marguerite, mother of don Bosco, devoted to her son’s work until her death. Like the Virgin Mary, they were inspirations, pillars and sometimes the first person of trust for these saintly figures. The documentary features footage shot in the “places of memory” of these remarkable mothers, illustrating their testimony. The various contributors help to lift some of the veil on the intimate world of these mothers’ relationships with their children. This film once again proves the Curé d’Ars right, when he said that children without a Christian mother are to be pitied, for “virtue passes easily from the hearts of mothers into the hearts of children”.
